I always like the photo to be the star of the layout, so I tend to blow up the size of my photos. Here I used a 9x9. Love it!
It came so quickly together. I used the My Minds Eye-Lush Red Circles pp and used the front & back. I cut some black cogs using Sizzix's Gadget Gears die.
I love creating this fun size of layouts. They are so much fun!!!
Another 6x12 layout up on the blog. I just adore this size!!! Here's a closeup of this word. love it! It comes out of this collection Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 7PK - You & Me.
Then I cut these small flowers out. Sizzix Bigz Die - Flower #3. Then I layered Kaisercraft paper flowers on top of them. Just fun. When I create black and white layouts, I always love to combine them with drastic colour to create a powerful punch. in this case I even broke out the Copic markers and coloured on the background pp.
This week has been all about using odds & ends and getting things done. I've told you before, but I'll say it again. When I have large leftovers, I immediately make a 6x12 scrapbook layout, then put the rest in my tag/card making drawers. I love interweaving the unique sizes in between our album pages. They give great and funky dimensions.
I have been scrapping up a storm this year. Kinda on a roll. and you now what???? It's been FUN & AWESOME!
When cutting these dies in the Big Shot all you need is a pair of Standard Cutting Pads. Make a sandwich with your die and paper between the cutting pads and roll them through your Sizzix Big Shot machine.
Sometimes when I begin with a background paper that has a cool design, I don't want to take away from that. So for example, I LOVED the little typewriter on the bottom of this one. So I made it a focal point. I tried to arrange my layout in a triangle from the typewriter to the flower to the top left scallop border.
Of course you know I broke out the Sizzix dies- LOVE THEM! CANNOT LIVE without my SIZZIX! This flower is Sizzix Bigz Die - Flower #4
Do you want to make something quick & easy for a valentine's gift? I am always looking for ways to jazz up a gift. So I purchased a few boxes of Turtles to give away to the teachers and a dear friend of mine.
Pick your favourite Valentine's Day Paper and cover these boxes.
The fun part comes in decorating them. To make the flowers I used many different flower dies. Then when I assembled them I mixed and matched them.
I cut all of these dies out of white & pink card stock, and also out of pp. When cutting these dies in the Big Shot all you need is a pair of Standard Cutting Pads. Make a sandwich with your die and paper between the cutting pads and roll them through your Sizzix Big Shot machine. I doodled on some and then layered them. Curl the petals between your fingers, they will look more real. Some of the boxes I wrapped with tulle, some with twine. Just a different look.
When I cover the box, you need enough strong adhesive that it will hold. For this I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L- Crafty Power Tape. It worked very well.
This is a fun way to use hexagons and get rid of your scraps. Sizzix has a lot of different hexagon sizes you can choose from. I am using this die Sizzix Bigz Die - Hexagons, 1" Sides #2
I start arranging the hexagons all over the page. Because I know that I am putting a photo in the middle, there is no point in putting hexagons there. I also like to put faux stitching around the edges, it gives such a nice finish.
This heart is from the centre of this die- Sizzix Bigz Die - HeartPendant. I love making chain banners with this die. I will show you in another blog post one day. I like the look of the crisp heart with a scalloped heart on the inside.
I started out with Clearsnap Ink using the colour midnight. It is a very deep navy blue. I rubbed the ink all around the edges and then a few places in the middle.Using the stylus puts you in complete control as you can vary the pressure.
This is what it looks like once complete.
Then I went in and added a brighter blue called moody blue from Clearsnap. You can see by adding the bright colour after, then you can see the dark parts peeking through.
Now start with a background paper and start building on it. I put a larger piece of blue pp on it to start building the base for my photo. At the bottom I used a scallop edge to give a different look.
Place the photo on and layer the tags at the top right. They are only decorative touches so they look nice layered.
Here is a close up of the scallop border. I doodled around on it to. Just cause ;)
Add a title- does it always have to be horizontal? NO! This kind of leads your eye to the photo I thought. Then I put a white card stock on the bottom to journal on it.
I added some hearts before I journaled. I didn't want to crowd them in as an after thought.
Stick a heart on the tag- It looks great! For extra movement I placed some sequins all around the page.
Here it is finished. Love this layout of Riley! Can't believe my first born is 11 already.
Thanks for joining me today. I want to share another layout. Oh and bear with me, I have so many projects to show you this month- I DID NOT EDIT the step outs. Just too many of them. So enjoy the look of my mess :)
Start with the background.
I am going to place an acrylic transparency over top of this background covering about 2/3 of it. Because I do not want any of the adhesive to show, of course I am using Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L-Adhesive Sheets. These are a staple in my house for sure!!! Before you put on the adhesive, make sure you peel off the protective layer from the transparency. I HAVE made the mistake of not doing this before. Ei yi yi. save yourself the hassle.
I always start by peeling only a top corner of the backing off the adhesive sheets. This allows me to line it up nicely without getting super sticky. When I am ready I simply use one hand to smooth it out as the other is pulling the backing off. It may seem hard the first time, but I guarantee once you figure out your method, it is slick!
Then to place the transparency on the background paper- I do the same thing, simply peel off one tiny corner, then adhere it and slowly start removing the backing off the adhesive as you are smoothing it on the paper. You will see even if you have bubbles, rub them out, it is a flawless finish EVERY TIME.
Next I cut a strip to go across the bottom, this covers the seem of my transparency.
I used a punch to cut out a whole bunch of scallop circles. Fold them in half and adhere along the bottom of the striped piece.
I cut a few hearts out using this sizzix die.Sizzix Originals Die - Hearts#3 Place one on the far right side , grounding it over top of the striped pattern paper. On this heart I did a very random line with 3 dots. DO NOT MAKE THIS LINE PERFECT! Make it whimsical.
Next out of the same die, cut another heart out of a different pp. I doodled dots over this one
You can see I cut a few more hearts and doodled on them as well. I matted my photo and placed it down. You can see that I put some hearts UNDER and OVER the photo. Just gives a lot more dimension.
I am really into these Heid Swapp foil stickers. They are fun and fantastic. Place them down where you would like the title.
Peel off the top of the sticker and place the foil down. Keep in mind the colour of the foil should be up. The sticker grabs the backside of the foil to transfer colour. Here is what it looks like after.
Start decorating with beautiful Kaisercraft flowers and put pearls in the middle. Also here is a great shot to see I stitched over top of the scallop border-helps keep them to lie flat and gives a neat look.
I just love these Maya Road trinket pins. Perfect match!
Here's what the finished layout looks like!
Another closeup.
Thanks for looking!

This weekend, I will be truthful. It was all about quantity, speed and accomplishment. I can definitely spend all day on a layout, I mean really? Who Can't? But I am on a mission to document the memories before we forget them!
So I broke out my silhouette, cut a few of the pre-made designs and just made them a little different for each kid.
So let's have a bit of show 'n tell this week.
This layout came together sooo fast. Like 15 inutes. Grab your scraps. The banners and lettering are all scraps glued to the backside of this layout. I added 2 brads and Baker's Twine, tied bows and added Thickers to complete the title. freehand journaling, faux stitching and it is done.
Here's another close up.
Check back tomorrow. I will show you how I take the same silhouette cut out and give it a little bit different look by changing the colours.
