Halloween- The creepiest time of the year.

I just love decorating for Halloween, especially with Sizzix dies. The kids get such a kick out of it. Have you been checking out all the Halloween projects over at Sizzix? They are awesome! I think I might even do one big post of my favourite Halloween decorations I have done over the years. 

These trays are such a quick & easy way to "jazz" up a wall. I cut 6 4x6 pieces of pp. I decided I am going to create a minimalist shadow photo frame. The bow is my new FAVOURITE die ever!!!! seriously. Sizzix Bigz Die - French Bow  I can see I will be using it on presents, banners, signs, I am even going to try and make bows for Irelands hair. 

Next cut out of black cardstock Halloween shapes. I used the smaller sizes of all of the Sizzix dies.

It is a very simple look. For this one I layered 2 dies just for the effect.

Here is what it looks like so far...

My plan is to fill in the other 3 rectangles with pictures of the kids from this years Halloween. But until then, I like the look of this.

Looking back on Halloween

ok let's kick this recap off with showing last night's photos first, then the decorations.

 

I simply adore Halloween. I know, repeat and repeat. But I love all the different things you can create that are crafty this time of year.

Then I did a Halloween daily ina library drawer. It is AWESOME! Every little page has a joke, or riddle, game or craft. The kids LOVE this one. They pull it out to read jokes to everyone that comes over. And funny enough I put it from the 1st to the 31st, and Ireland will go rearrange it every time. She has an order that she'd rather it be in.

These luminarias were definitely my favourite thing I made this year. We didn't end up lighting them yesterday because it was too windy then it rained, so I didn't want them wrecked.

I think I forgot to take a picture of all the webs and spiders I stream all over the place. lol probably a good thing. It will be a son of a gun to take down...

It's kinda sad, all the graveyard is being taken down as I type, decorations are being packed away, scentsy warmers replaced with Christmas ones. Time for change.

Treat Favours

a bunting we will go...

Hello, It's me again. I forgot to show you on the pirate post one of the most favourite decorations I created. The Pirate bunting! I love pennants!!!! I crete them for every occasion, every holiday, they are always in our house. Needless to say, I invest in every pennant/bunting die sizzix makes. I went to my local fabric store and bought fabric that reminded me of pirates. I also bought the stiff felt.

Just a quick note too, The Sizzix dies cut through fabric with ease. Some of my materials were really slippery and prone to fraying. The dies made the edges crisp with no pulling. FYI.

I used this seriously AWESOME die from Sizzix. And if you love it, it is ON SALE!!!!!!!

I cut all the scalloped pieces out of the stiff felt, and then used interfacing on all the fabric parts. That way when I sewed them together they had some way to hold their shape.

(psst, don't look too closely at my sewing, I may have rushed it a bit...)

 

It was a pretty windy day, but my husband strung up all 3 pennants. (approx 20-25 feet each) The kids loved it. Jager begged me to keep them up forever. That is how I measure success, when kids are that excited.

Luminaria fun! getting ready for Halloween!

These are fun little luminarias to do with your kids!

Halloween is my favourite time of year!!!!!! seriously! I like creating spooky decorations, and I LOVE each of SIZZIX's dies. They are AWESOME! These are sooo much fun to make. All you need are a few Sizzix dies, paper bags, black cardstock and wax paper.

So how do you start? Cut out a hole out of the paper bag.  It could be a circle or square depending on the shape you want to silhouette. Then line the inside with wax paper. Place the black cardstock die image ON TOP.  I recommend using a "fake" candlelight on the inside as I atcually had one bag burn very quickly! lol. a little excitement for a minute.

Also if you put a little sand in the bag it will stay up without moving. Have fun, the possibilities are endless!

Igloo pt.2

so if you have been following our igloo building adventure (this post) we are almost done. Only the entrance way archway needs to be complete, but we ran out of daylight.

but we put a light in it and man was it cool! Unbelievably, it was sooo warm, I really truly was putting th insulating foam in the cracks wearing only a tshirt. I am really pumped to see how it holds out for winter.

 

One more day and a few more jugs and we will be finished!Everyone has asked us for instructions, I will write them once we are complete. There are a ew things we would change. Lessons learned. But if you are considering it, start saving jugs now. It tool us almost 2 years to save and that was with LOT'S of family & friends saving for us.

Here's few more Hallowe'en moments I want to share with you guys...

I can't believe how many pumpkins we saw that looked like this. Gave me a giggle, kinda grotesque but funny.

Is it me you're looking for?

ok, Sherri, when you put this on facebook today, I giggled and giggled and then realized, Hello, this isn't funny. It's the situation of my blog right now. gone, hidden, disappeared, blah, blah blah.

I almost gave up on blogging, not because I didn't want to blog, but because the lack of technology in our household that prevented me from blogging. Shaw=stone ages for us. Never once could we have internet, tv and phone at the same time for 3 days in a row. So it became frustrating and we came to not rely on anything technology in our house. Yes very silly, why didn't we change right away? Well for a couple of reasons: It is such a pain in my ARSE to move our entire library wall to change back. And finding time in our schedule to accommodate someone being there to even let them in. Next to impossible. Besides throwing in any possible changeover charges. I was willing to give a second chance, third, fourth, apparently hundreds. Well not any more. Our day finally came to change 2 weeks ago and I am beyond happy! Woohoo.

Fingers crossed, we are glitch free...

Hallowe'en was AWESOME! Such a warm warm night, and of course we scored unbelievable amount of candy. too much, way too much. Embarassingly to say I threw out an entire cauldron full from last year. Jim bugged me and said we should hand it out. I asked did he want our house egged? The novelty of candy is there for a few weeks then thank heavens it tapers off.

Of course you know I dressed up, I always do. Whether it is to hand out the candy or if it is walking around with the kids door to door. This year our best buds joined us and we had a BLAST!

Somehow I lost time in the day and was left with less than a handful of minutes to focus on my face, but this is where 12 min. got me and dollar store face crayons. Needless to say, I have realized it is time to break out my cosmetic grade face paints. I used to face paint soooo much in previous years, and have taken many classes on face painting, and if you want to do something right  you need the right tools, or at least ones that are worth more than an buck and don't break every second. lol. Before when we used to have crazy adult parties, and reasons to paint our faces...now with kids I see we are going to have many more reasons to do it. 

So here I am a dead witch and my zombie little red riding hood. I told her not to laugh so that she has a serious scary face, but that is hard for our family. we laugh way too much.

Jager...wait for it. Spiderman AGAIN!!!!!!!! seriously let's retire the red/blue spiderman, the black spiderman. We've spidey 3 times now!!!!! but this time it was different because he had muscles!!!!!

Our pumpkins were very plain this year. We went to Winnipeg as a family and that didn't leave us much time to spend the day carving. But I was pretty happy.

hmm, so now that I am back blogging, I am going to try and pick up on sharing with you more. Have to get myself back into the routine...
