Asian food ROCKS! My kids adore Ethnic food. They beg for it all the time. Last time we went to the Asian House. Which by the way is a little hole in the wall, kind of dumpy looking, but AMAZING food. I took pictures of the kids using chopsticks. Ireland and Jager are pretty good at it. Riley flips things all over the table all the time. It is quite humorous.
I used the Sizzix dies a little differently this time. I punched out all the weekday words and used it as background writing, as if it was a part of the pp.I used the Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 14PK-Daily Words:Script. I like to hide my dates or ages of the kids all over the page. That way when I am looking at the page, I don't have to guess or flip the layout over to find it. Here I knew it was a Thursday, so under the Thursday die cut, I wrote June 3rd. Quick little way to document it.
This is a fun way to use hexagons and get rid of your scraps. Sizzix has a lot of different hexagon sizes you can choose from. I am using this die Sizzix Bigz Die - Hexagons, 1" Sides #2
I start arranging the hexagons all over the page. Because I know that I am putting a photo in the middle, there is no point in putting hexagons there. I also like to put faux stitching around the edges, it gives such a nice finish.
This heart is from the centre of this die- Sizzix Bigz Die - HeartPendant. I love making chain banners with this die. I will show you in another blog post one day. I like the look of the crisp heart with a scalloped heart on the inside.
We are bringing in the Holiday season with challenges designed to get you inspired to create for the Holidays. Please head over to the Core blog for crop rules. And we have the Facebook HCC crop page here for you to chat and hang out with fellow Hard Core Croppers so make sure you head over there, too. You never know when challenges or giveaways will pop up over there!
Today I have created for you Gift Bags. These are a great way to brighten someone's day with a personal gift wrapping. Today I did 2 Thank you bags, but it would be a perfect concept for a birthday or Christmas, even a baby gift. I can't wait to see what each of you come up with.
Supplies needed:
gift bag
Core'dinations ColorCore Cardstock in the coours that suit your topic
border punches/ favourite punches
letter stickers
adhesive
twine
Core tools-sand it & dust buddy
additional items that will be awesome:
embellishments
patterned paper
ribbon
embossing folders
die cutting plates
Let's get started! Here is the first
Start out with a plain gift bag, I get mine from my local Dollar store.
Cover the gift bag with a base colour. I never ever go edge to edge with
the bottom layer. I like a bit of the gift bag still peaking through.
I did sand ONLY around the edge.
Make sure you use enough adhesive, the last thing you want is your gift bag to fall apart on the way to the recipient. :0
Next I started to create my layers. I started with a fairly light beige background. So it was natural for me to pull in a darker colour. For the darker layer, I sanded the entire thing. I wanted it now to "pop" a little more and by revealing the base it really stands out more. I also raised it with Scrapbook Adheive by 3L 3-D Foam Squares.
Break out those Spellbinders Dies! Here's a perfect time to cut out a funky shape! I picked red cause it seems to help the brown tones POP! For this element I DID NOT sand it. I like to really vary the layers with sand and no sand. I think they give a larger impact.
Again another fun die. For me it seemed so natural to add some tone of blue. I love the neutrals, but I love them more when they have some sort of "snap" to them to come alive!
Now for my main accent! I die cut a cute little Gingerbread man. (Tim Holtz die) I adore him and he makes me smile.
Add a title and somw twine and voila! Now it looks like a decorative piece!
Gift Bag #2:
I'm not going to show all the steps again, as some are a little repetitive of the first bag. Lot's of layering again. This time I used more border punches . Again I popped everything up with 3-D Foam Squares from Scrapbook adhesives by 3L. This time I added lettering stickers from Bo-Bunny.
I brolke out my EK Success punches and made some butterflies. I only put my Dodz Adhesive in the middles so they wings could be bent to look like they are flying.
Rule of 3, so I balanced another butterfly lower down on the left.
Then I punched out a whole bunch of little flowers and layered those and used them as little accents all around the gift bag. Same with the itty bitty hearts. What I haven't shown you is, I later decided to put rhinestones in the centers of my flowers. I didn't have any on me when I was scrapping at a friends house, but when I got home I decided they needed a little something something.

Not much to say today. Thinking about putting a dent into some of my design team work this weekend. I was just asked to join a new one yesterday and I have never represented or taught with their product so it will be very exciting to have fun with that. I will let you know who it is once I receive my product to play with. :))
Until then, here's a few more that I made the other day. This one was a class that I took from Bazzill. hmm, I just added the pics and the buds title. Otherwise the layout is how I did in the class. I'm not excited about this at all , but I think it is because I am sooooo used to always using patterned paper WITH cardstock. Rarely do I do a 100% cardstock layout.
Jillibean pp. American Crafts thickers, Making Memories rub ons. Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L EZ runner & foam squares
This layout I taught probably 4-5 years ago? It is only page 1 of 2. These are the Cooper's Christmas photos one year, so I LOVED pairing the colours because the red totally pops!
supplies: Rose Moka pp, stickers. Bazzill cardstock, magic mesh, fancy pants rub ons. Magenta mesh paper
Another quick quick layout. I really love contrasting black & white with colour fun. supplies: Luxe pp & jotters, American Craft's thicker shapes & Memory writers, Prism
This one was one of those layouts I create because I totally dig the paper and want to use it but have no pics picked out yet, or with me. I really like how this one turned out.
supplies: Bo Bunny pp & rub ons, American Crafts thickers, Fiskars punch, Kaisercraft rhinestones & pearls, Bazzill
See you tomorrow for Inspiration Sunday. Who is going to inspire me this week? hmmm...
totally LOVE Bo Bunny, so thought I'd interrupt discussing Crop & Create for today to show a layout or two.
Isn't Jade simply stunning. I really liked this layout too.
I had sooooo much fun scrapping my besties family. I can't wait to give these layouts to her. Cute! This one I didn't really want to tape down in case it wrecked the layout so sorry for the poor quality photo. but you can click on it to enlarge.
Sooooooo is everyone aware that TOMORROW, Friday May 20th. a Kindersly Transport has been arranged to take donations up to Slave Lake. If you are interested here is the info:
Stonegate Walmart- parking lot @ 3035 Clarence Ave. S -look for a Kindersley Transport Semi
*******8 am *******
Stuff I was told they need desperately:
(Monetary donations are to be directed to Red Cross)
toiletries (men, women, kids)
diapers
blankets
sleeping bags
water & juice boxes
grad suits/dresses
bug spray
lip balm
sunscreen
baby furniture
non-perishable food
Of course anything you can donate will help. Seriously, take a few minutes to go through your stuff. I know I am blessed and live in abundance. So each of us went to our closets and pulled out anything we don't truly wear anymore. I also went to our linen closet and got bedding, extra blankets and towels. It felt great to create boxes and boxes for these poor souls who are living in an unfortunate limbo. I encourage everyone to try as well.
Mom I think the world of you and it is always unconditional the love you give me and the kids. THANKS! you are so wise, and knowledgeable.
So I told you I started a new adventure, a new pledge. It is crazy but could be life changing. (hahaha)
The pledge was to do 100 layouts BEFORE buying anything new. However, some of the peeps I was scrapping with were giving me a hard time if it was fair for me to enter since I do hundreds a year and am sent stuff to work with. So instead I offered a twist to the pledge. I said I would try and do 100 projects that are not work related. This could be hard. But I am gonna try. It is a good way to use up our stuff. And I have to be honest, as I was going through my boxes of stuff I wanted to sell, I found stuff that I LOVED buying but have never used, so I started creating project kits for myself. I made almost 40 of them. So I think a large part of my battle has now been tackled. EXCELLENT!
The most important part of this pledge for me is that I don't have to reinvent the wheel. I can do simple projects, or anything I want, It can be totally taken from a sketch or however I want. That is cool. I have hundreds of pics I want in albums so it is a good time to get them there!
The very first piece I did for this is:
The next is 2 out of a series I am doing for my friends. So far I have 10 in the works and are drying. I delivered 2 today to fabulous friends, and will continue delivering as I finish them. They are totally inspired from my SHE ART course that I took from Christy Tomlinson. LOVED it and totally recommend to anyone!!!!
I totally am blessed with amazing friends. I have been so misguided on friendships I've had the last few years, that I really felt so strongly on trying to really fine tune the ones I have and the ones I want to nurture. So these are teeny tokens of my appreciation for them. True friendships are so valuable!!!! Can't wait to finish up the rest and get them out too!
here's another one.
well off to enjoy the rest of the day with my kids, I love when they come home. miss you jimmy!
this title is beyond true. Their little friendship is love and then tested all day long, then loved again, then tested. then Jager goes to school and all we hear is Jager, JAger, Jager. then whenever things go wrong, she blames jager. but then sometimes they just are so kissy face. So of course I had to document this.
Well today, still working on the tornado mess. however, I put a pathetic effort into it. Instead we had a long playdate where I definitely ate the best buns I have ever tasted. Hands down no one has come close. So thank you for not "locking the recipe in the vault", cause i am going to try and make them June.
then came home for a quick supper and went for a little retail therapy. Actually I had to return a few things so did Jody. Then a quick Walmart trip always is good. Especially since I needed some groceries. far more fun with adult conversation.
Now back to the tornado, as you ca see I am easily distracted. oops.
I did take a gazillion pics today of all my projects I've done in the last 2 months. took me an hour so I have lot's to show in the upcoming weeks. I think Monday will be my favourite post yet. stay tuned.
Have a fabulous fabulous weekend. Fingers crossed for warmer weather, I want to toboggan.
a few months ago, I was back in my 2 page layout rage. It was fun to go back into that habit. I have lately been doing only 1 pagers.
oopsie, looks like my h was going a walking. off to fix that!
check back tomorrow for more layouts. I am hoping to make my blog filled with art and colourful fun stuff. It has been slacking awhile. Life got a pinch too busy, which is good. but Leica get to work on becoming more SIMPLIFIED. There's my pep talk for the day.
