I wanted to create a grungy mobile for my daughter.
I painted all the butterflies with Art Anthology mists and sorbets. It gave intense colour-which I wanted. Once completely dry, I rubbed a black ink pad over top to highlight the embossed parts. Then I added glitter, stickles, liquid pearls and rhinestones. They ended up being pretty but grungy.
Next time I think I will buy wire so I could've created a mobile that curved around and around. I don't mind it hanging but that would give a different look.
We are back to school next week. Where did that time go????
It's time to decorate the house, change the chalkboard, and get the school spirirt up!!! Today I want to show you the cute little mailboxes I made the kids. Of course, everything is done in 3's- one for each kid.
So what are we going to use these for? Little notes. maybe candies. who knows? Our middle child proposed an idea to us the other day that this year let's make one day a week special for each person of our family. This would be perfect to leave them something special.
I use my Pro machine for these big dies. It just makes it easy to have it sit on a big plate.
I don't like wasting a whole sheet so I will cut it down. Then arrange the papers on the die.
Here is what it looks like AFTER it is cut.
Here is all three mailboxes cut out ad ready to go.
Start bending all the edges in, this is kinda the tricky part to make it "fit"
It is easiest to put a double sided tape on the bendy parts. Then kinda keep bending it and sticking it as you go.
Thanks for checking out the mailboxes! Check in tomorrow, I will show you a butterfly mobile my daughter wants for her room.
I decided to create an art piece for a University class. Obviously I have lived and breathed art my entire life, it only made sense to express myself in this way for my final project.
Let's start with the process.
Get yourself a pallet, break it a part and assemble a "canvas" to create on. I liked having the wood different widths, just gave a different look. Also pallets are such a poor quality of wood, so they have AMAZING texture.
I started out painting random colour all over it. Let dry completely. (I forgot to take a photo of this step)
Then I took white paint and painted overtop of the colour, only letting some peak through. Some areas I just dry brushed it.
Here's some close ups of the background. Iafter I painted with white paint, I rubbed in Inka Gold olours all over. It adds such shimmer.
Then I grabbed my Sizzix machine and cut a whole bunch of different sized letters to create words.
Once I cut all the letters, I painted them different colours, sanded them, sprayed them with ink.
Here's a closeup of the words.
My goal with this art piece was to pick a few strong words (strengths & weaknesses) that would represent me.
I wanted the words to be the "art" of this piece. Strategically I plced them in layers with the positives all grouped at the top right hand corner, with the weaknesses in the bottom left hand corner. The strengths I tried to make pop out more, as I would hope people would focus on more positive words first. I think every part of my life revolves around Art in some way, so for me I focused all the words around that one.
Then I also pulled chipboard letters from my stash. (about time I started using them!!!)
I used the following to colour them:
Art Anthology
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist/Chalkboard Mist
Liquidex Acrylic Colour
Inka Gold
My sister took a pic while I was creating this.
I added some funky textures to the artwork.
I wanted this art piece rugged. I'm a farm girl who lives in a city. But there is no place I love more than the farm. I love the nature, the animals, quadding, the free feeling you don't find in a city.
So to create a project on pallets reminded me of the corrals at the farm, the old barn, the fence posts.
The chicken wire, totally of the farm animals. Lord knows we hada love/hate relationship with the chickens.
The bricks, remind me of city living- buildings and concrete everywhere.
The turquoise blue is my favourite colour, so I wanted it prominent throughout. I think it is also calming maybe to represent my "easy going" personality. Then in contrast, I put splashes of red all over too. It takes a lot to work me up, but when I do... Look out. I can be a hot tamale.
Here is the final look.
Thanks for looking! Hope you are haing an AMAZING summer!!!!
