Also, I'm about 2 days away, so keep commenting for a chance to win my big 5000 prize, (technically if you include my old blog it's like my big over 17000 people visiting, crazy for little ole me!) HUGE THANKS THOUGH!
First off, the canvases were sponsored by Canvas Concepts. You can go to this site to see which stores carry them:
http://www.canvasconcepts.com/products/index.php
My advice would be to phone them directly to see if you can get them from them if there isn't anyone near you. I haven't dealt with them personally but it's worth a try. They actually have so many sizes to choose from.
So this calendar class was also sponsored by Sassafras Lass: I didn't have a choice in the product but I was very pleased with it. This Indian Summer line had such a nice flow to it. For me the colours matched my house so I was tickled! there were some of ytou that this did not match, sorry, but now you'll have to make one on your own to match. The cool thing is Canvas Concepts actually has quite a few different unique sizes. So next time I'm going to make the very bottom larger so I can put more pics on. When doing this project please make sure to use a strong adhesive; Stix 2 tape, glue dots, something that isn't wet, because your pages will curl. The tape runners aren't strong enough so they will lift.
The size of canvas for this calendar was 2-4x12's and 1- 12x12.
The calendar didn't take too much cutting.
Step 1: Cut 2 of 3 3/4x 11 3/4.( This paper doesn't have to have too much design as it is the background only.) This will give you a nice trim of canvas showing. Then ink this. I love to use Dark Brown by color Box.
Step 2: Cut 1 of 11 3/4x 11 3/4. This paper should be brighter, busy. Go crazy. Only bits and pieces will actually show, so you can have more fun with it. This will be the main background for the calendar. Ink edges. attatch.
Step 3:Next pick a pp that contrasts to the previous step. Cut it 8 1/2x 11. Ink and place on an angle.
Step 4: Cut 5 3x3 squares out of 3 different pp. (it could actually be out of 5 diff.pp if you have that selection) you will only see parts of this as you will cover up most of this with pictures.
Step 5: Title you calendar. Use chipboard letters, stickers, rub ons, acrylic letters, whatever you have. I used our last name but you don't have to. You can just say "Calendar". your choice. I used stickers that came with this Sassafras kit. They weren't strong enough so I popped them with Glossy accents. Much happier with the result.
Step 6: I actually screwed my clips into the wooden part of the canvas. I didn't have faith that glue dots would hold strong enough for constant removal & replacement of the calendar pages.
Step 7: Add any little decorations. Flowers, doodling, ribbon. make it your own design. I still haven't jazzed mine right up but I have been sick all week and have not felt like it.
Step 8: Find calendar pages you like, of make your own like me. Attatch a business size envelope on the back of your canvas calendar. put all the rest of the pages for other months in this, then you have them stored, ready to go.
Have fun with this.It has been one of my most favourite projects to make so far. I will post a finished project of mine hopefully next week. I'm hoping to just step it up a little more!
CREATIVE CANVAS ALBUM
I had so much fun with this one. I love mini albums for this reason: people can look at your life in a glance quickly without having to drag down the big albums. They can see little theme books that tell so many different quick stories.
So for this album I personally used 2 6x6 albums. For the class canvas concepts sent 5x5. Sorry!
I do think that you can work with any size though. Someone asked me to convert all my measurements to 8x8 for her. It can be done but it does require LOT'S of cutting & creating pages. While anything 6x6 & under is a piece of cake.

So I'm going to give the directions for an 8x8 in red and parenthesis.
The covers (front & back) begin with 2- 4 2/4x 4 3/4 size sheets. (Cut 2 sheets 7 3/4x 7 3/4.)
Step 2: The first 2 pages are like opening pages. The left hand side I will have my best largest photo. On the right I will do some journaling to talk about the photo and introduce the book. I might add a small index picture on the striped part just for interest. all of my GUT pages( the backgrounds that actually create the book) are going to be 5x10, you can have as many of these gut pages as you would like. The more just gives you a thicker book. For an 8x8 album the sheets don't come in 8x16(so you have to use either Martha Stewart's 18x18 size pp, or you have to cut yours to 2-8x9, the reason for this is you will be overlapping and mending every page to create one large page, ultimately equalling 8x16. On the page below the photo mat is going to be 4x5. you won't have as much background showing. (keep in mind, mine are 6x6 pages.) 8x8 album, you can go as big as a 5 1/4x 71/4. why not? you have the room. On the r.h. side make your journaling tags bigger too and plan for a bigger picture to be shown. The background stripe sheet will be 5x7. Ink edges. For the 5x5 album, the stripe sheet will be 3x4. Ink edges. The journaling tag I used was a premade one. So you will have to create your own.
For these two pages: again you have the gut page 5x10. I then added 3 circles (1 1/2 in diamter) to the r.h. side. On the left hand I used a premade tag and 2 2 1/2x 2 1/2 sized photo mats. ink all edges. (For an 8x8 album, use more cicrles or bigger circles if you can. Then on the l.h/ side make the photo mats 3x4. It will be too crowded for 4x5's.)
The next 2 pages: Cut the striped paper 4 x 10 to place right down the middle. Ink edges. Then make a photo mat for l/h page approx 3x4. I placed a premade tag in the middle, I'll use this for journaling. On the r.h. side I'll place a photo on the stripes. For an 8x8 make the photo size a 5x7, The stripe should be a 6 x 16 piece.(again cutting & piecing)
The next 2 pages: These ones I made a 5x2 strip and then a 5x3 strip for the r.h. side. Ink these edges. I cut 2 2x2 squares. Ink edges. For the r.h. page the diamond is a 3x3 shape.edges inked. The strips of striped paper are just little scraps that I used to look like ribbon. For an 8x8 album, cut the 2 background strips 3x8 and 5x8. Ink edges. The photo mats will be 3x3's and the r/h/ side could be a 5x5. (crop a 5x7 pic smaller)
next pages: I created a random wave freehand. Don't worry you can do it! Ink edges. I used a premade tag, placed it. Then I put a 3x4 photo mate over it. for an 8x8 album, increase wave size thickest part being at the most 4 1/2 inches. The photo mat for yours can be 5x7.

more pages: I cut 2 2 1/2x 5 sheets. placed one horizontally, one vertically. Edges inked first. On the r.h. side placed a 4x4 photo mat with a circle for the date or names. (for an 8x8 album, cut 2 sheets 4x8. again one vertically, one horizontally. The photo mat I would do a 5 x 7 again. you have the room for big pics, why not use them?)
one more set: This one has 2 different colour mats. One is 3 3/4x 4, the other 4 3/4 x 5. Ink edges. On the l.h. page I placed the mat vertically, the small square is 1 1/2x 1 1/2. I put a circle in it for journaling. The r.h. side is placed horizontally. For an 8x8 album, cut the background pages 5 3/4x 6 3/4. The other one is 6 1/2x 8. Ink all edges, the square will be 3x3 and a larger circle in it.
last page: I just inked edges and decorated with stickers.
*****edited***** I forgot to tell you how I hooked the album together. Thanks Cheryl for remindeing me. I orginally planned to do an accordian album, but they are so delicate and break easily if manhandled. I instead glued all the papers to the next pages to make it a double sided page. So the very first l.h. side will get glued to the canvas, then the r.h. side will get glued to the next set's l.h. side and so on. When you get to the last page, the r.h side will not have anyone to glue to but the back canvas. Good luck. If this isn''t clear I can whip up some photos to demonstrate it. Good luck. Just think logically how a real book works.
Throughout this whole album I used dodling lines to add my own touches. When I've completed this book I'll show you a few pages.
We are just leaving to go to the shop to hang with Jim so I'll have to show the rest tomorrow. Have to take advantage of the days daddy takes off!
